Now that you’ve put some colour in you hair, amp up your make-up with springs hottest tren
d: COLOUR!
Incorporating pops
of colour into your make-up is probably the easiest way for just about anyone to renew their look. You don’t need a super crazy colour to make a change. A simple bold red lip or a touch of dark blue liner along the lash line makes a statement without being too much.
If you are feeling a bit more adventurous with your make-up, the easiest place to apply it is to your eyes. Ensure that the hue you choose is appropriate for your skin tone and compliments your eye colour. A good rule of
thumb is that cool colours generally are best suited for other cool colours and warmer shades are better paired with warm tones. So if your eyes are blue the
n a pretty shimery pale blue would look beautiful. If your eyes are green a sultry violet would suit your look. If your eyes are brown then a spicy copper brown shade would be stunning.
Don’t be afraid to try new things, it will really heat up your winter!

Feeling drab this month? With spring just around the corner, it’s time to get out of the winter funk with bright colours in your hair, make-up and wardrobe!
Adding fun fashion colours to your hair can be a bit risqué for some, but don’t fear, you can be as wild or as tame as you want! For those just wanting to ease into the trend, try just adding a few blonde panels around your face or sizzle with a sexy copper or red peek-a-boo highlight!
If you’re feeling a bit more daring why not try adding a few blue, green or purple pieces into your locks. The best way to achieve a sexy bold block of colour into your hair is by choosing just ONE colour that compliments your hair cut and colour and asking your stylist where it would be best suited and incorporat
ed into your style.
Nirvana offers bonded hair extensions that can be both subtle and bold. The best part is once you no longer want the colour, you can simply take it right out with no pre-lightening, fading or damage. Our extensions are a great way to try a fun colour! Book in or walk in for a consultation today!

A little bit of history…
By the 1860s, British burlesque relied on the display of shapely, under dressed women to keep audiences interested. In the Victorian age, when proper women went to great lengths to hide their physical form beneath bustles, hoops and frills, the idea of young ladies appearing onstage in tights was a powerful challenge.
Gypsy Rose Lee, a burlesque performer, said it best with “Let me entertain you”, now let us entertain you…

The Golden Globes were held this past Sunday January 15th in Beverly Hills. Many a celebs were dressed to kill on the red carpet. A few of our favorite ladies get our nod.
The mother of two showed up solo but stunning at the awards this year, Nicole Richie wore a floor length silver open backed knockout of a dress by Julien Macdonald. Her make-up was sexy with a dark smoky eye and a natural pink lip. Her hair looked gorgeous with a full blunt bang and a sixties inspired bouffant pony tail. The whole look came together flawlessly.
Nominated for her supporting role in the mini-series “Mildred Peirce” Evan Rachel Wood wore a custom feathered Gucci Premier gown. The dress itself was gorgeous, and her beauty only complimented the bold piece. The starlet wore natural eye make-up a soft pink lip and had a soft creamy glow to her flawless skin. We loved her new cropped hairstyle which was worn softly smoothed away from her face. The classic blonde colour of her hair makes her lovely blue eyes s
parkle.
Emma Stone looked the part of a goddess walking the red carpet in a plum and raspberry Lanvin gown with a plunging neckline paired with black and silver accessories. Her green eyes were played up by the smoldering silvery grey eye shadow; on her lips she had a natural looking pink colour. Her red locks were parted at the side and pulled into an elegant up
-do.
With her film “In the Land of Blood and Honey” up for Best Foreign Film the new director and mother of six was breathtaking. Angelina Jolie arrived with her always handsome escort Mr. Pitt. She wore a stunning champagne Atelier Versace gown. Her makeup was flawless; her bright red lips stole the show pairing beautifully with the red in her dress. Her eye make-up was subtle and classic framed by her perfectly groomed brows. Her beautiful dark hair was swept back all off of her face into a simple chignon.

Is one of your New Year’s resolutions to FINALLY start taking care of your hair? No matter what length, texture or style your hair is, it is always in need of some TLC.
Taking care of your hair is just as much a part of taking care of your entire self as anything else. No matter how you twist it, how you look impacts how you feel, so make 2012 a year for you!
Regular Visits to Your Stylist: Some hair types need a bit more lovin’ then others do of course. If your hair is coloured, textured or damaged, you may need to spend some more time on upkeep. Longer hairstyles usually require fewer haircuts then a shorter styles.
Visit your stylist and ask what he or she recommends for upkeep. Generally colouring will range from 6 weeks (for full colour) to 8-10 weeks (for highlights) and haircuts will require 4-6 weeks (for shorter-medium hair) to 10-12 weeks (for the long haired lasses). Once you get on the right schedule for cutting and colouring you will feel a huge difference in the way your hair looks and feels. For those of you who are not a fan of the scissors, remember, that hair NEEDS to be trimmed regularly for your hair to grow healthy and shiny, removing the dead split ends prevents further breakage.
Home Hair Care: As well as visiting your stylist regularly home hair care is especially
important. Ask your hair care professional about what products are right for your hair, as each hair type has different needs. Redken has a wide variety of shampoos, conditioners and treatments designed for each hair type, from Extreme (for damaged hair) to Intraforce (for thinning hair) to Fresh Curls (for curly or wavy hair) and many more in between. Cleansing and conditioning products are Step 1 of your home hair care, Step 2 is styling products, and once again the right product for you will depend on your hair’s needs. Some hair types may require fewer products than others. Step 3 of home hair care is the finishing products, such as oil for dry ends or hairspray for extra hold or volume. The right products for your hair are going to keep your hair looking salon fresh and healthy all the time.
These small changes will help to make your hair look beautiful, healthy and happy all year round. Here’s to a healthy hair 2012!

Try putting your hair into a low chignon for your holiday parties! This style is a nice classic look for all hair types and workd great with medium to long hair.
Start by blow-drying hair as smooth as possible with a straightening balm, such as Redken Align #12. Pull your hair into a low ponytail either in the center or off to one side. Decide if you want your hair to look messy or smooth and sleek.
If you want a sleek, shiny look, twist all of the hair and wind it up and around the elastic until you have a classic ballerina style “donut” bun. Use bobby pins (similar in colour to your own hair) to secure the hair all around the bun, twist the pins slightly for a more secure hold. If you want the look to be a bit messier looking, take individual pieces of the hair and pin them up piece by piece twisting as you go. Secure all of the hair around the nape of the neck. Spray each piece with a texturizing product such as Redken Wax Blast #10 before twisting them into the look that you want.
Once all of the hair is where you want it, spray all over with a strong hold hairspray (Try Redken Forceful #23). If there are little flyaway’s around the hairline, use the end of a tail comb to smooth them down as you mist with spray. For a romantic look, leave out pieces from the ponytail around the face and pin them up loosely into the bun. Try pulling down a few shorter pieces around the face or incorporating an accessory into the look.
Get creative and don’t be afraid to try something new!
